An import LC is commonly used to pay a supplier against specified complying documents. The payment timing and document requirements are agreed in advance. It is useful to discuss when the supplier requires bank-backed payment terms for a shipment.
An SBLC typically supports an underlying payment or performance obligation. A beneficiary draws by presenting the demand and documents required by the standby. It is not automatically the routine method of paying each invoice.
A bank guarantee may address payment, performance or another specified obligation. Its effect depends on the wording, applicable rules and demand conditions. Instrument names alone do not tell you who is protected or when payment is due.
Share the beneficiary’s wording and the underlying transaction for review. None of these instruments automatically finances goods, guarantees quality or eliminates every trade risk. The existing Construction Letter of Credit service supports a different subcontractor use case; do not substitute it for an import LC without reviewing the requirement.
